Write Blackout Poetry

You can create a Blackout Poem by taking any other text and scribbling out the words that you don't want, leaving behind a poem.

It's lots of fun, hugely creative and challenging like completing a crossword.

Inspiration

Watch this inspirational stuff from Austin Kleon and then maybe go shopping for black markers and visit charity shops for books that you would like to create blackout poetry from.

In textual studies, a palimpsest is a manuscript page, either from a scroll or a book, from which the text has been scraped or washed off so that the page can be reused for another document.

If you want to work digitally you will need some text to start with. Here are some great sources of texts you might blackout.

Maybe give both routes a whirl.

I created a Blackout Poetry Maker so that you can drop a text file onto it and go from there.
